Make a Call and Make a Difference!!
Check this out!!
There is a proposed bill in legislation to add the definition of dyslexia and related learning differences to the Kentucky Education Handbook. If the proposed bill passes, schools would recognize dyslexia and would screen all children for it before they enter third grade. They would also provide intervention based on scientifically-based research! This bill has already passed in the House and is now in the Senate.
The best intervention is early intervention so let's catch dyslexia before it impacts our students' self-esteem!!
Call your senator today and tell them to support this bill!!

The Reason for Reading
Why do you Read?
...because my teacher/boss told me too!
...to learn new information about an interesting topic!
...for fun!!!
...because my friend said this is a good book!
...because I'm bored and have nothing else to do!
There are many reasons to read and we've all been told it's a good thing to do. However, some students are only reading because they know their grade depends on it and they don't know how to make their time reading worth while! Mostof these students will find that they have read a paragraph, a page, or an entire chapter and not really have any clue what it was about.
If this describes your child, empower them to Read for a Reason by attending the student workshop we will be hosting to improve comprehension and retention. The workshop is broken into 4 sessions -- one hour each Saturday in February.
The first series of workshops will focus on the aspects of reading fiction! Kids will learn the main pieces of a fiction story, so they will know what to look for as they are reading through the story the first time. The four sessions will be action-packed and fun!
For more information about the schedule and pricing, visit www.TheCuriousEdge.com/TheReadingRoom.
I love to read for pleasure and want all the young children in the world to find the enjoyment in it that I do!!!
